"Cruising The Caribbean" - Just Takin' it Easy in the BVIs... Mon!

After picking up a "Charter Couple" (Ian's old childhood friend Trevor & his lovely wife Karen) we started off from Villiage Cay Marina on 03/21/2004 and sailed to the Bitter End yacht club on Virgin Gorda. This was a 3 hour trip, our very first sailing experience, sailing at "Full Sail" with 16 knot winds. We moored in the bay for a 2 night stay then headed for the bar(s).  Set off on 03/23/2004 sailing 12 miles to Marina Cay Island, then dropped anchor. We again headed for the bar and found a new favorite drink called a "Painkiller" (Notice a pattern here?) We have no idea what is in it, but after a few of them you don't care anyway. Leaving Marina Cay on 3/24/2004 we headed back to the other side of Virgin Gorda, to a picturesque bay called The Baths, known for it's excellent marine life. A snorkeling Mecca according to the locals. That same afternoon we sailed to Cooper Island and moored at Manchioneel Bay. The waters were crystal clear, and the fish came right up to the boat.  Did we mention the bar? Oh Well! 3/25/2005 took us to Norman Island, often referred to by the locals as Treasure Island. Moored at The Bight, the Local bar here was "Willy T's", a barge anchored about 500 feet off shore, the only way there was by dinghy. Of course went there. It was know for people who jumped off a raised diving board naked to win a T shirt. Of course we all did that too. On 3/26/2004 we sailed in some pretty nasty weather to the Island of Tortola and Cane Garden Bay. No bar today, we stayed on the boat. On 3/27/2004 we sailed North to an Island called Jost Van Dyke, and anchored in one of the BVIs Great Harbor locations, the home of Foxy's bar. And, as it was Saturday night, we all went ashore for a meal, and then on to Foxy's for the "Jump Up", and a lot more Painkillers.  This was a particularly interesting anchorage. It was quite windy that night, and at 1am we were all woken up by the boat next door dragging it's anchor.  It nearly hit us, in fact it did but all the men stood guard with rubber fenders every time it came too close, so it hit them not the boat. He had to pull in his anchor chain about 15 - 30 feet to fix the problem.  On 3/29/2004 we sailed to Trellis Bay on Beef Island, seeing lots of sea turtles as we moored. On 3/30/2004 it was off to Road Town on Tortola to get some upgrade measurements taken on the boat.  Then on 3/31/2004 we sailed to Peter Island and anchored in another Great Harbor. As usual the turquoise waters were crystal clear, this was the best snorkeling yet. Ian followed a turtle and managed to touch it's shell as it was rising for some air. It did not mind at all, and continued on it's merry way, feeding on sea grass and other sea bottom vegetation. On 1/4/2004 we set of back to Road Town where the Charter Couple (Trevor & Karen) left, we will miss them. Then we continued with the boat upgrades. Basically some sun shade upgrades to the cockpit Bimini.

Well that is all for now. We are off to Saint Maartin to just lazy about in Marrigot for a couple of weeks. We will then be joined by an other "Charter Couple" (Ian & Ross' old work mate Glynn and his friend Phillipa).

Some photos of our travels around the British Virgin Islands.
