"Cruising The Caribbean" - Back In The Leeward Islands

Well, we have almost come full circle. We are now homeward bound, this being the last leg of our journey for this season. Carl will be leaving us on March 8th. and our English friends from Last year, Trevor and Karen will be joining us on March 4th. in Antigua for the last leg of this winter season.

As mentioned last month, on March 1st. we left Roseau in Dominica and sailed on to The Saints for a second visit. We arrived back at the small French settlement of Bourg-Des-Saintes. On March 2nd. we set sail for Antigua, as 90 mile sail, some 12 hours at 7.5 knots, quicker if the winds are favorable. We arrived with plenty of light (Daytime) to spare in Jolly Harbor, Antigua at just past 4pm. We will stay here for a couple of days to do some boat maintenance and pick up our friends Trevor & Karen on March 4th. Of course the meeting place is a bar, The Dog Watch Bar in Jolly Harbor. Our friends arrived and on the 5th. we left for Deep bay, a very short sail north round the Island. On the 6th. we continued round Antigua to Long Island and anchored in Davis Bay. Karl Left us on the 7th. and we anchored at the very beautiful Great Bird Island, no houses or inhabitants at all, except century plants, lizards and sea birds. On the 9th. we set sail for Barbuda and spend 2 days relaxing on perfect sand beaches with beautiful turquoise waters. The 11th of March took us to Nevis and one of our very favorite anchorages at Pinney's beach just off Charlestown. On the way we had a great Whale watching experience where a pair of hump backs swam along side us for a while before diving into deeper waters. On the 14th. we sailed to St. Kitts and went ashore for lunch at Basseterre, the capital. Then in the afternoon returned to Nevis for the night. On the 16th. we set sail once again for Antigua, arriving back in Jolly Harbor in the early afternoon. Trevor an Karen will be leaving us on the 17th. as they will be returning to England on the 18th. We set sail early on the 18th. Once again for St. Maarten, the last leg of our journey this season. Now back in St. Maarten we are cleaning up the boat getting ready to leave. As of the 22nd. this is the end of this seasons sailing. We hope you all enjoyed these web pages, and thanks for taking the time to share our experiences while we were "Cruising In The Caribbean. We can recommend the experience to anyone who gets the chance to do it. Goodbye For Now!
