We spent two weeks kicking it back in St. Maarten, visiting the French and
Dutch towns and beaches. Exploring such places as Marigot, Simpson, Cole,
Grande Case, Orient, Oyster Pond, Dawn and Philipsburgh Beaches (Bays). We
also pottered around the towns of Marigot (French Side) and Philipsburgh
(Dutch Side), picking up all sorts of duty free goodies such as 1 Liter
bottles of Absolute Vodka for the obscene price of $5.95 US! On 4/16/2004
we were joined by another "Charter Couple" (Glynn & Philipa. Glynn is an
old work friend of both Ross and Ian from the UK). On 4/20/2004 we
continued our sailing experience, by moving on South to the Island of St.
Eustatius (Statia). The weather was not particularly good and the night of
4/20/2004 was quite a bouncy one. So without even checking in the boat on
Statia, we continued on 4/21/2004 past St. Kitts to the Small Island of
Nevis and a very calm spot just off Charlestown. The waters were crystal
clear and the beach (Pinney's Bay) was as far as the eye could see. We
stayed there for five nights venturing into town and on day sails around
the Island, and the Southern most tip of St. Kitts. On 4/24/2004 we set
off from Nevis to St. Kitts and the town of Basseterre, we stayed only one
night in St. Kitts after looking around the town, then headed back to
Nevis for some calmer and clearer waters. We spent another two nights in
Nevis before heading North to St. Barthelemy (St. Barth's) on 4/26/2004,
the sail was very bumpy with waves and swells between five an fifteen
feet, no need to say we got quite wet, but it was still very warm, so it
actually was quite refreshing. We arrived safe and sound in Gustavia where
the waters were clear and relatively calm. After lunch in Gustavia on
4/27/2004 we moved on to Anse De Colombier, a small bay not far from Gustavia which proved to
be nice and calm. Then on 4/29/2004 headed back to St. Maarten as our
friends were leaving for the UK in a days time. The seas were quite rough
for the first 5 miles or so, and we got a few waves in the twenty foot
range. But the Catamaran is quite stable, and we all arrived safe
even though a little shook up. Well that is
all for now. We are back at St. Maarten to just lazy about in Marigot
for another week before returning to the BVI's.
